Secret Garden – International Garden Festival– 12th edition
November 14, 2010Ribbon of Delights
Inspired by the rabbit hole as a portal into the dream world of Alice in the wonderland, our proposal aims to intrigue, inspire and inform the visitors of themselves and their surroundings as they weave through the multilayered landscaped ribbon garden. The site is link by a weaving ribbon constructed from off the shelf containers. Elements of the garden such as seeds and stones are stored in each container, performing the role of a museum as visitor passes under it. As a 21st century version of the rabbit hole, the journey through the garden utilises active and passive techniques (sensors/ amplification/ optical illusions and careful selection and placement of plants) to concentrate on the sensory modalities of the visitors – highlighting their sense of touch, their sense of sound, their sense of smell, their sense of sight and also their spatial sense of light and shadows. Through interacting with the various ribbons of delights, the team hopes that each visitor will emerge from the garden rejuvenated and equipped with a new perspective of gardens and themselves.
